In Scandinavia you will find a strong cooperation between scientists and beekeepers and between universities and beekeeper’s associations. The associations have a number of important applied research activities and are also involved in development of beekeeping in developing countries.
Urban beekeeping projects that bring together bees, biodiversity, local communities and honey production can be found in cities across Scandinavia. In Oslo and Copenhagen there are projects working at the front of the sustainability agenda, collaborating with social projects, businesses, schools and arts organisations. These projects are not just experimenting with urban beekeeping techniques, but also new approaches to marketing beekeeping products and engaging citizens in creating richer environments for all pollinating insects.
